Meet Javier GIL, TEQUILA CATADOR

Welcome to Tequila Javier. Our business is born from our passion for tequila, food, and all things Mexico.

Javier Gil was born in Michoacan, Mexico and immigrated to the United States as a young child. He was raised in Palo Alto, CA and was the first in his family to graduate from High School and College. After graduating from San Jose State University, Javier entered the business world, working for various companies over the years.

Javier comes from a family of artisan tequila makers and has always had a love for the spirit. He had always hoped that someday he could follow his heart and build a business by which he could educate others about the history and culture of tequila.

Javier received his training from one of the foremost experts in the tequila world, Ana Maria Romero Mena.  She is one of the first official Catadores of Tequila and widely regarded as one of the most trusted, respected, and awarded tequila authorities in Mexico. In addition to the training above, Javier also passed the official test administered by the Consejo Regulador del Tequila, earning the Award T Program certificate “Professionalization in Tequila Culture” instructed by Florina Martinez Vega, CRT Representative for US and Canada. This training focused on the culture of Tequila, including the regulations and standards set forth this protected product.
